We provide access to affordable and appropriate fertilizers specific to the needs of individual crops and soils. We invest in soil nutrient mapping and soil and crop management testing, and we develop new fertilizer formulas to increase crop yields..
At OCP Africa, we are constantly developing new fertilizer formulas to adapt products to local conditions and crop needs, thereby increasing crop yields. In fact, just in the past two years, we’ve tested or introduced seven new formulas tailored to local conditions and have seen success with deploying crop- and soil-specific fertilizer in Côte d’Ivoire (cocoa), Nigeria (maize) and Ethiopia (maize, wheat, barley and teff).
For example, in Rwanda, a research trial using new blended fertilizers has shown that when added to existing products, they can increase average rice yields by 40 percent, growing farmer profits substantially. We have also prioritized investment in soil nutrient mapping and agronomic tests – working with national agricultural research systems to fully complete soil nutrient mapping in Morocco and update soil information in several countries including Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire and Kenya.
Our imapct
School Labs have already helped 350,000 farmers in Kenya, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Tanzania and Côte d’Ivoire, and we hope to reach 500,000 within three years.
In the Nigerian market, OCP Africa reached and supported 5,000 maize smallholder farmers and 4,000 rice farmers through the Agribooster program.
